Part of the Ken Gin Project, Gin 08 represents Ibaraki Prefecture, capturing the essence of the region through its signature ingredient — sweet potato. Ibaraki is one of Japan’s top producers of sweet potatoes, celebrated for their natural sweetness, rich aroma, and velvety texture.

In this gin, the sweet potato lends a gentle, earthy sweetness that beautifully complements classic gin botanicals like juniper, citrus, and spice. The infusion creates a uniquely smooth profile that bridges savory depth with a light, clean finish.

Brewery: agataJapan ORIGINALS

Sake Type: Japanese Craft Gin

ABV: 40%

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Fresh citrus and juniper with subtle, warm notes of baked sweet potato.

  • Palate: Smooth and rounded, with sweet earthy tones balancing herbal freshness.

  • Finish: Clean yet lingering, with a soft, comforting sweetness.

Serving Suggestions:

Perfect for sipping neat to savor its complexity, or in a Gin & Tonic for a refreshing twist. Works beautifully in cocktails that call for a warmer, softer profile, such as a Gin Sour or Tom Collins.

Why It’s Special:

By featuring Ibaraki’s prized sweet potato, Gin 08 is both a tribute to the prefecture’s agricultural heritage and a distinctive addition to Japan’s craft gin scene.

About Brewery

The Prefectural Gin Project is an initiative to plan and develop craft gins using the specialties of each of the 47 prefectures in Japan, and to promote them in Japan and abroad.
Our goal is to maximize the flavors of products unique to each locality, and to design products that are not only delicious, but can also be used as a fun communication tool at gatherings where people can enjoy a drink in hand.

About Ibaraki

Located in the Kanto region northeast of Tokyo, Ibaraki Prefecture is famous for its fertile farmlands, vibrant seasonal festivals, and high-quality agricultural produce — particularly sweet potatoes. This gin captures the prefecture’s rustic charm and natural abundance in every sip.
