About the Brewery

Yagi Sake Brewery, the producer of Yamatan Masamune, was founded in 1831 in Imabari, Ehime, and is currently the only sake brewery in Imabari City.

Originally established as “Tanbaya,” the company began producing sake in 1832. The name “Yamatan Masamune” combines the brewery’s original name with the image of Masamune, the famous Japanese sword, expressing the concept of a sake with a crisp finish.

The brewery was completely destroyed by fire in 1945, but sake production resumed the following year. It was officially established as Yagi Sake Brewing Co., Ltd. in 1950.

In 1981, the brewery received a Gold Medal at the National New Sake Appraisal Competition. It has also achieved recognition in various other sake competitions throughout its history.

Today, Yagi Sake Brewery continues its long-standing sake-making tradition in Imabari, Ehime, with a history spanning nearly 200 years.
